Virginia D. Biggs

Virginia Biggs, 85 of Valparaiso, was born September 23, 1927 in Memphis, TN. Coming from a family of educators, she graduated from Lincoln Memorial University when she was 19 years old. She attended a number of other universities and received a Master’s Degree. She came to this area in 1956. She went on to a career in education teaching at a number of schools including Valparaiso University where she taught home economics and Purdue University where she taught nutrition. She then went on to a career as a dietician and worked at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and ended up as a Food Service Director for the State of Indiana in Westville. She was preceded in death by her husband Marshal Biggs, brother Henry Dickenson, daughter-in-law Elaine Stallard and her first husband Doug Stallard. She is survived by her sons, Pat and Maury Stallard and Chris (Deborah) Biggs, and her bother Dr. Walter (Atha) Dickenson. She was a very unselfish, fun loving lady who enjoyed spending time with her 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She also enjoyed sports, cooking, games and educating herself about a number of subjects. She passed peacefully at the VNA Hospice Center on February 7, 2013. Visitation will be Tuesday, 6-8 PM at Bartholomew Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Bartholomew Funeral Home, 102 Monroe St, Valparaiso, Pastor Craig Forwalter officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
