Dear Hank: I'm so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your family. I didn't realize Sari had passed as well. She was such fun and full of energy. When I read your tribute to your Mother it brought tears to my eyes. I lost my son, Jeff, and my younger sister, Rachel, in 2008, within 13 days of each other, and am still having a difficult time coping with it. So I took your suggestion on the book by Dr. Weiss, and it has brought some comfort, so I thank you for that. I have a son, Matthew, who graduated from FAU last year and is still in Boca. I lived in the WPB area for over 30 years, in the mortgage business until it's collapse in '07 when I returned to Valpo and am caring for my 90-yr-old Mom. So, anyway, thanks again for the recommendation. Best regards, Marilyn Henry Kligler

I was so saddened to read of Mrs. Asher's passing, but also I had an immediate smile on my face when I read her name and saw her beautiful face. I was one of the many girls that she trained and supported as a Candy Striper at Porter Memorial. For four years of my life, she was a positive force, independent of my parents or school system. She always encouraged us and had faith in our abilities. She was patient and kind, and taught us how to be respected members of a health care team. I did go on to nursing school and then obtained additional degrees in Health and a Masters in Busines. Today I am a CEO of a retirement community. But it was Mrs. Asher who laid the foundation for me to dedicate my life to service of others. All of this BEFORE servant leadership was a coveted business model. I know how your hearts are heavy during this time. I hope it helps to know many are grieving and celebrating the life of a wonderful inspirational lady with you. Laurie Mullet

I just learned today of Lu's passing. She was truly a terrific woman. After a VHS reunion about six years ago, I stopped by her place and visited with her for about an hour. It was as if no time had ever passed. She took such pride in all of her children--Hank, Charlie, Sari, and Tom. I feel fortunate to have known her.

Dear Asher Family, Your mother was a wonderful, cheerful, beautiful lady! She was a dear, dear friend of my Aunt Pauline Giles. She attended my wedding in Chicago in 1982. I was also one of her Candy Stripers.

I know she will be missed!!! Susan Ruge Engles

Aloha Hank; I hope the years have been kind to you. Over the years I have kept in touch with Bert Langer and he sent me your Mom's obit. Please accept my deepest sympathies. Like you, my parents passed and I know how hard it is, but they continue to live on in my heart. I can feel them smiling and see them in the twinkle of the eyes of my lovely daughters. I have fond memories of the Asher family visits to our farm in Valpo, the kids making trouble in the pool and our parents enjoying libations before family dinner. Our parents were truly special people. Let's keep in touch, if you ever come to Hawaii, please look me up.(808) 221-2601 With Warm Personal Regards; Peter Herndon
