Bruce Jon Schiesser, age 63, of Valparaiso, IN, passed away peacefully at home on November 17, 2016.  Bruce was born March 5, 1953 to Bernard and Patricia (nee Moran) Schiesser.  He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Cathy (nee Davis); sons: Jason (Lindsey) and Ryan (Lauren) Schiesser; grandchildren: Tyler, Mia, Madelyn and Ella Schiesser; brothers: Harry (Ila), Larry (Penny), Alan (Sue), Richard (Yanney); sister: Lauree (David) Resto; brother-in-law: Bob (Marcy) Hassel; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Linda Hassel and Cindy (John) Lockard.

Bruce graduated from Boone Grove High School as a proud member of the Class of 1972.  Immediately following graduation, Bruce began working at Von Tobel Lumber & Hardware in Valparaiso where he provided 44 years of dedicated service.

Known for his loyalty and friendly nature, Bruce enjoyed sharing his love of IU and VU basketball, and especially his World Champion Cubs, with others.  Bruce also loved the outdoors, whether it be fishing, hiking or strolling on the beach.  His favorite hobby was collecting antique fishing gear.  But, what he loved more than anything else was God and family.  Bruce was a faithful man, and he was his children’s and grandchildren’s #1 fan.  He will be missed by all. 

A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM, at Bartholomew Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Valparaiso. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Schiesser Campership Fund at YMCA Camp Tecumseh, 12635 W. Tecumseh Bend Rd., Brookston, IN 47923, so that children who cannot afford summer camp can attend.
