C. Hazel Malone, 81, of Valparaiso passed away at home on October 3, 2017. She was born on July 3, 1936 in Bainbridge, OH to Clark Sr and Arabelle (Knisley) Walley. On November 26, 1954 she married William Reed Malone. Hazel was the valedictorian of her graduating class in 1954. She graduated from Springfield Hospital for Nursing in 1957 and continued on to receive her Bachelors and Masters Degree in Nursing from Valparaiso University. Hazel was a professor of Nursing at Indiana University Northwest for over 35 years and was the Assistant Dean of Students; she retired in the year 2000. Hazel was very active in several organizations she was passionate about including Board President of the VNA, NWI Sickle Cell Association, Indiana Family Health Council, past President for March of Dimes, Great Lakes Regional Chairman for Planned Parenthood, past President and Treasurer for the Indiana State Nursing Association, and Board member of the Valparaiso Methodist Church. Surviving Hazel is her husband William, son Michael (Beverly) Malone of Valparaiso, stepson Owen Malone, granddaughter Michelle (Nick) Lewandowski, step-grandchildren Caleb and Zachary (Ashley) Malone, great-granddaughter Emma Lewandowski, and step-great grandchild Kenley Malone. She is also survived by 3 brothers Clark Walley Jr of Bainbridge, OH, Steve Walley of Tulsa, OK, and Jerry (Wanda) Walley of Ohio, and many nieces and nephews. Hazel is preceded in death by her grandson Michael Malone Jr and 8 brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Bartholomew Funeral Home, 102 Monroe St, Valparaiso from 2:00 PM- 6:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held at Bartholomew Funeral Home on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 11:00 AM.
