Ronald J. Thoreson, 70, of Valparaiso, passed away on July 7, 2017, in Crown Point.  He was born on September 25, 1946, in Gary, Indiana, to Harold and Margaret (Daley) Thoreson.  On September 19, 1998 in Valparaiso, he married Cynthia Gifford, who survives. 

Ron worked as a union carpenter for Local 150 and Superior.  He enjoyed mastering Legos, creating woodwork for his family, and camping.  He also served in the Army from 1967 to 1970. 

He is survived by his children, Kimberly Thoreson of North Judson, Ronald Thoreson Jr. of Valparaiso, Jody (Richard) Bailey of Valparaiso, Martin (Gloria) Healy IV of Michigan City, and Elmer (Jan) Thoreson of Bloomington,  and 6 grandchildren.  Ron is also survived by his siblings Karen Rogers of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Jo Ellen (Marvin) Yoder of San Pierre, Vicki Furst of Valparaiso, Lori Nelson of Valparaiso, Tim (Billie Jo) Thoreson of San Pierre, and Marc (Sherry) Thoreson of Michigan City. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter Nicole Healy. 

A visitation for Ron will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, from 3:00 – 7:00 PM at Bartholomew Funeral Home in Valparaiso.   Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at 11:00 AM.  Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the American Diabetes Association.
