Ruth Ann McWhorter

Ruth Ann (Wenslaff) McWhorter, 74, of Valparaiso, IN died January 29, 2018. Born January 9, 1944 in Janesville, WI, Ruth Ann was the daughter of Howard and Ellen (Knudson) Wenslaff.  A graduate of Milton Union High School, Milton, WI, and the University of Wisconsin (Madison), Ruth Ann was a reporter for the Vidette-Messenger newspaper, Valparaiso, IN for 14 years.  After leaving her newspaper job, Ruth Ann was elected to four 4-year terms on the Porter County Council.  She was the council’s representative on the P.C. Plan Commission for 12 years and also served on the P.C. BZA.

Ruth Ann and William (Bill) W. McWhorter were married Sept. 1, 1970 in Otis, IN at the home of Richard and Ada Caddell with a reception in Milton, WI.  After Bill died in 2002, Ruth Ann met Dr. Harold McCarron, Valparaiso when both were serving on the board of the P.C. Parks Foundation and they enjoyed their later years together.  Ruth Ann also served on the board of the American Cancer Society in Porter County.

She is survived by her sisters Virginia (Terry) Linton, Sacramento, CA; Jeanie (David) Wantz, Hudson, WI; Linda (Tom) Herold, Burlingame, CA; Esther (Keith) Peregrine, Philo, IL; Mary (Pete) Eppolito, Ben Lomond, CA; and brothers Tim (Xiao) Wenslaff, Chico, CA and Jeff (Jane) Wenslaff, Chico, CA.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2017, at Bartholomew Funeral Home, from 10:00 AM until the time of service.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM at the funeral home on Saturday.
