Sandor Istvan Szoke, 84 of Valparaiso, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2017. He was born August 1, 1933 in Mateszalka, Hungary, the son of Istvan and Maria (Boroczki) Szoke.  He fled Hungary in 1956 after the Hungarian War, leaving everything behind for a better life in America. He attended Valparaiso University, all the while teaching himself the English language and working odd jobs in pursuant of a goal and future as a Mechanical Engineer. He was a Life Member of Faith Memorial Lutheran Church, where he was very active and served as an elder, usher, etc. On May 23, 1964 he married Eva Jane. Andrews, his wife of 53 years, who survives in Valparaiso. Also surviving are his daughters Susan (Kelly) McKay of Madison, Wisconsin and Beth (Kevin) Peters of Crown Point, 4 grandchildren, Katie McCarthy and Kerry  McCarthy and Roenick Peters and Jackson Peters, a sister Anna Szoke of Hungary, sisters-in-law Allene Welkie and Bev Andrews, his best friends and partner in crime Arpad (Fran) Marton, nephew Sandor (Elizabeth) Szuda and nieces Jennifer (John) McKenna, and Krisztina and Erzsebet Szoke of Hungary. A Prayer Service will be held, October 1, 2017, 2-2:30 PM at Faith Memorial Church, 753 N. Calumet, Valparaiso, followed by a reception until 5:00 PM.
