Charles E. Dowd

1933-2017

Charles Edward (“Chuck”) Dowd was born February 15, 1933 in Center Township, Indiana to Charles McKinley Dowd and Francis Irene DeHaven Dowd.  He graduated from Valparaiso High School in Valparaiso, Indiana in 1952 and was a member of the VHS varsity basketball team.  He went on to Tri-State College in Angola, Indiana on a basketball scholarship.  After stints as an ironworker for the American Bridge Company in Gary, Indiana and in the U.S. Army, Chuck married Jo Ann Bartz and together they moved back to Angola to finish his education.  He graduated from Tri-State and began a nearly 25-year career in construction management with H.H. Robertson Company in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area.  Chuck retired to Hilton Head Island and later moved to Houston, Texas and to Salt Lake City, Utah to be near his grandchildren, who were the pride of his life.  He was preceded in death by his wife Jo Ann, his parents and his brother Thomas.  Chuck is survived by his son Curtis (Susan) Dowd of Park City, Utah, daughter Christi Dowd of Houston, Texas, granddaughter Jordan (Joe) Tylutki of Dallas, Texas, grandson Carter Dowd of Boston, Massachusetts and sister Bonnie (Roger) Wall of Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Funeral services will be private at the gravesite at the Blachly Cemetery in Valparaiso, Indiana.
