David Anthony Brooks, 63 of Kouts, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at his home. He was born July 20, 1956 in Cass City, Michigan, the son of Oscar D. and Patricia M. (Decker) Brooks. David was a member of Bridgepoint Church in Valparaiso, where he served faithfully. He was President of the Kouts Town Council for many years, was a Public Defender, and volunteered at a homeless shelter. On June13, 1981 he married Linda Simmelink, who survives in Kouts. Also surviving are his children, Jessica (Michael) Denny of Valparaiso, Julie (Morgan) McGreevy of Austin, TX, and Evan Brooks of Kouts, grandchildren Gavin, Elizabeth and Caroline, brothers Wayne Brooks of Grand Rapids, MI and Brent (Roxanne) Brooks of West Branch, MI, sisters Lori Brooks of Cass City, MI and Sally (David) Alban of Big Rapids, MI, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dogs Alex and Phoebe. David was a man whose faith and hope were in Jesus Christ his Savior. Visitation will be held Friday, January 24, 2020, 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Services at 11:00 AM at Bartholomew Funeral Home, 102 Monroe Street, Valparaiso, Pastor Matthew Pieters officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Valparaiso. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Baptist Children’s Home, 354 West Street, Suite 1, Valparaiso, IN 46383.
