Richard C. Lynch, 84, of Brownsville, Texas (formerly of Valparaiso, Indiana) passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018, at Valley Regional Medical Center, Brownsville. Richard was born on February 27, 1934 on Dieners Hill, near St. Clair, Pennsylvania to George and Alice (Lloyd) Lynch. He graduated from Pottsville High School in 1951 and joined the U.S. Navy shortly after, where he would serve for four years. It was during his service in the Navy that Richard married Joan Thorn, his wife of 46 years, who preceded him in death in 2000. He then moved to Brownsville, Texas, which was truly a blessing, as it was there that he met Amy Losey, who he married on September 28, 2006. Richard was a hard worker and was employed by the Bethlehem Steel Corporation for over 30 years. He was an avid golfer and never missed an opportunity to play with his friends and family. A social butterfly all of his life, Richard never went anywhere that he did not meet a friend. Richard was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Valparaiso. He enjoyed travelling and loved to dance. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: George Lynch and Alice Siminitus; and son: Bruce Lynch. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Amy Lynch; two children: Carol (Tom) Byerly of Valparaiso, IN and Lisa (Gary) Cauley of Wanatah, IN; grandchildren: Matthew Byerly, Michael (Josie) Byerly, Lucas Cauley, and Gary Cauley; a great-grandchild: Gabe Byerly; a brother Robert (Sue) Lynch of Harlingen, TX; and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial service for Richard will take place Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 3401 N. Valparaiso Street in Valparaiso. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Porter County Red Cross, the Cancer Society, American Heart Association or the Porter County Special Olympics.
