Alexander Edward Kukurugya, 93, of Valparaiso passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023. He was born on February 26, 1929 to Andrew and Mary (Slosar) Kukurugya in Youngstown, PA.
Alex was a US Navy veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a steelworker at US Steel for 33 years and was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #150. In his spare time, he built multiple homes for his family, grew bountiful vegetable gardens, and enjoyed feeding the songbirds and wild turkeys that visited his yard.
On February 15,1958, he married Charlotte Jean Strumski who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Paul, his parents, five brothers and a sister. Surviving are his children, Kevin (Nancy) Kukurugya of Crown Point, Mark (Susan) Kukurugya of Valparaiso, Karen (Dean) Davis of London, United Kingdom, and Lisa (Trevor) Cooper of Encinitas, CA, nine grandchildren, his sister, Mary Ann Williams of Valparaiso, and many nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023 from 10:00AM until time of funeral services at 11:00am at Bartholomew Funeral Home, Rev. Roque Meraz officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville.
