Arnold “Arnie” Glass was born on July 4, 1954, in Hopkinsville Kentucky and passed away on January 12, 2023. He leaves behind his wife, Andrea Lyon, three children, William Glass (Alyssa ), Dr. Samantha Glass and Barbara Glass, grandson Phillip Arnold Glass, his brother Karl Glass(Carmen) and sister Barbara “Bobbie” Glass.
Arnie had three careers. First, he was in the United State Army for eight years active duty and four in the reserves. He then went into retail, managing and selling everything from cars to electronics to watches. At 43 he enrolled in college, graduating from DePaul University and becoming a high school history teacher at Bloom Trail High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois. While teaching he earned his master’s degree from Governor State University. He retired from that job in 2014.
He collected die cast cars and spent a lot of time on Facebook arguing politics with his more conservative friends and colleagues He loved classic R & B music, his favorite group was Frankie Beverly & Maze, followed closely by the Isley Brothers and the O’Jays. He kept up with the news constantly and encouraged his students to do the same.
Arnold had a profound positive effect on the students whose lives he touched; many of whom went on to college and successful careers because of his demanding yet supportive help. Together with his wife, he established a scholarship to help his students with expenses in college.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at Bartholomew Funeral Home in Valparaiso, IN., at 1:00 P.M.
