Catherine Lucille (Ruwersma) Easton

Catherine (Katie) Lucille Easton, was born in early August of 1928 to Harold and Marie Ruwersma. She had 4 brothers and 3 sisters. She set out on her own at the age of 16 to start her adventures in life. She met and married her husband of 44 years, Jack (John) Easton and went on to become the hard working mother of 7 children. She and Jack moved to Groveland, Florida after Jack retired. Katie started working at the Radisson Maingate/Disney World as a housekeeping supervisor in Orlando. When Jack passed away in 1993 she moved back to Hobart, Indiana and then to Valparaiso to be near her beloved family.

Katie was as sharp! as a tack until her last 3 days on earth. She loved playing and winning! at Yahtzee and all card games, she enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, playing (free) online casino games, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. When she was younger she loved playing Bingo with her friends and enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino too! She took great pleasure in caring for her flowers and feeding the birds on her apartment patio and then watching all of the wildlife in her back yard. She liked baking for her neighbors and she told her grand kids that she could crack 3! eggs in one hand. Her fruitcake was the absolute best too! She loved hearing stories and laughing at her kids and her grand kids’ shenanigans. She was spunky and her children and grandchildren were devoted to her. Katie was so appreciated by many as she sent hundreds of cards to all of her family and friends over the years and she never.ever.forgot anyone’s birthday!

Katie leaves behind her adoring children, Carol (late Jim) Rubino, John (Nancy) Easton Jr., Michael (Patti) Easton, Jan Easton, Kevin (Ellie) Easton, Mary Beth Easton and Gail (Jim) Vargas. Her grandchildren, Jaime (Mike) Henry, Jaclyn (Mike) Fladmark, Eric (Jessica) Easton, Kurt Easton, Erin Easton, Jenny Gornik, Kevin (Connie) Gornik, Michele (Rich) Jacobs, Nicole (Jon) Barron, Vince (Pam) Easton, Shannon Easton, Bonnie Easton, Shawn (Teresa) Easton, Tiffanie (Jeff) Nowaczyk, Carla (Luke) Sherry and Craig (Esther) Vargas. She also will be dearly missed by her siblings and nieces and nephews. She was so very proud to say, “I have 7 children, 16 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild on the way!”

Our sincere gratitude go out to Katie’s physicians, Dr Kimberly Perry, Dr Sandeep Sehgal and Dr AJ Pampalone who cared for her over the many years and kept her healthy to live to the age of 94 1/2... Thanks and love go out to these angels...the compassionate and caring nurses at Aviva Valparaiso and the VNA Home Hospice nurses and staff.

Funeral services will be 11:30 AM, Tuesday, March 28th at Bartholomew Funeral Home, 102 Monrow St. in Valparaiso. Pastor Allan Wright officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4-8 PM and Tuesday from 10:30 AM until the time of the service.
