Obituary

Darlene Marie Hawkins 84 of Valparaiso, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2023. She was born April 6, 1939 in Mitchell, South Dakota to George H. and M. Geraldine (Hammerton) Rockwell and has been a 70 year resident of Valparaiso. On December 7, 1957 she married James F. Hawkins who passed away December 17, 1987. Darlene is survived by her children James K. (Picha) Hawkins of Ft. Worth, Texas, Lisa M. Hayes of Valparaiso, and Patricia L. Green of Ogden Dunes, Indiana; and her two grandchildren Hannah Hayes and Brandon Green. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother and one sister. Darlene was a former bookkeeper at the Willows Rehabilitation Center in Valparaiso for many years. She was a member of the Banta Senior Center in Valparaiso and enjoyed gardening, dancing, reading, and following politics. At this time there are no services or visitation. Place of final rest will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Valparaiso. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 8679 Connecticut St # D, Merrillville, IN 46410. Bartholomew Funeral Home in Valparaiso is in charge of arrangements.
