Douglas Guy Lang, age 77 of Valparaiso, Indiana, beloved husband of Bonnie Lang, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 12th, 2023. He was born February 3, 1946 in Bass Lake, Indiana to Glen and Edith Lang.
He was a 1964 graduate of Liberty Township High School. He went on to play semi-professional basketball before serving in the United States Army as Sergeant in Vietnam from 1965-1968, where he earned a Bronze Star for his efforts. He worked as a Superintendent for the Indiana State Highway and was a member of the Local 81 Laborers Union for more than 20 years. Doug was an avid runner, completing many marathons during his lifetime. He was a sports enthusiast, from playing, to coaching, to rooting for his favorite teams. He spent much of his free time shooting baskets in the back yard and collecting ball cards. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren, watching them grow and attending their numerous activities; he was their biggest fan.
On July 18th, 1981, on Mink Lake in Valparaiso, Indiana, Doug married and was devoted to his loving wife, Bonnie Hensel, who survives in Valparaiso. Also surviving are his children Kathryn (Mike) Bowgren; Jamie (Jason) Tanner; Casandra (Adam) Heeren; Crystal (Barry) Fenters; and Doug (Laura) Lang; grandchildren Cody (Bri) Hayes, Bella Bowgren, and Aidan Bowgren; Hunter (Makenzie) Barbian, Hope (Leah) Duke, and Faith (Zack) Ogibovic; Owen Heeren and Ruby Heeren; Trevor Fenters, Landon Fenters, Carter Fenters, and Rhyder Fenters; Edith Lang and Roland Lang; great grandchildren Macy Hayes and Harper Bowgren; Valor Barbian and Addyson Barbian; Waylon Ogibovic; brother Charles Lang, mother in-law Ann Hensel, and several nieces and nephews.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Edith Lang and brothers, Donald and Tom Lang. Visitation will be held at Bartholomew Funeral home, located at 102 Monroe St., Valparaiso, IN 46383 on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, from 3:00 – 5:00 PM. A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 5:00 PM.
