Lois Earlene (Gumm) Scheerer

Lois Earlene (Gumm) Scheerer 92, of Valparaiso, passed away Monday, February 26, 2024. She was born February 5, 1932 in Hobart, Indiana to Arthur and Myrtle (Bringe) Gumm. On February 14, 1953, she married John W. Scheerer who passed away June 3, 2006. Lois is survived by her son John Timothy (Wendy) Scheerer of Chesterton, her cherished grandsons Adam and Nate Scheerer; her brother Terry (Mary) Gumm of Merrillville, her sister-in-law Eileen, four nieces and six nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Don Gumm, two nieces and one nephew. Lois’ primary occupation was Office Manager for the Valparaiso Water Department, and prior to this role, she enjoyed consulting with customers at Fabric Junction in Chesterton. Lois loved spending time with family and friends. She meticulously decorated and maintained her home. Lois was a keen collector of antiques, and she also enjoyed walking, visiting historical sites and colonial homes, reading, and volunteering. On Saturday March 9th at Bartholomew Funeral Home in Valparaiso, visitation with family is scheduled for Noon to 3PM and will be immediately followed by a Memorial Service, officiated by Rev. Dr. Timothy A. Leitzke. Memorial contributions in memory of Lois can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Valparaiso, the Porter County Animal Shelter or Dunes Hospice.
