Mary Lu (Kernochan) Withers

Mary Lu Withers 63, of Valparaiso, passed away suddenly October 15, 2023. She was born October 27, 1959, in Poughkeepsie, New York, to George E. and Dolores M. (Martell) Kernochan. On May 24, 1981, she married the love of her life, William Withers. Mary Lu was a devoted Army wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed making her house a home and cheering on her grandsons in all their activities. Mary Lu attended St. Paul Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband LTC William Withers; children Amanda (Matthew) Bookholt of Westville, IN and William G. (Rebecca) Withers of Colorado; grandsons Thijs, Theodore, Finnegan, William, and Luca. She is also survived by her siblings Felicia A. (Richard) Warner of North Carolina, George E. (Christine) Kernochan of New York, and Shawn P. (Teri) Kernochan of Florida; Sister-in-Law Susan R. Withers, Mother-in-Law Dorothea S. Withers of WI; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial visitation will take place on Friday, November 3, 2023, at St. Paul Catholic Church, from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. A memorial Mass will be immediately following the visitation.
