Patricia J. Downey, 81 of Valparaiso, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023. She was born June 24, 1942 in Gary, the daughter of Roy and Martha (Wampler) Myers. Pat graduated from Gary Wirt High School in 1960. She graduated nursing school from Purdue North Central in 1977. She worked as a caring and dedicated nurse for 40 years at Porter Memorial Hospital, Methodist Hospitals North and Southlake Campuses and also V.N.A. Hospice Center in Valparaiso. She loved cooking, gardening, knitting and crocheting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In 1962 she married Keith B. Downey; they were married for 61 years. Also surviving is her daughter Laura Downey (Vashon, WA) and son David (Anne) Downey (Valparaiso). Grandchildren, Dr. Joshua (Payton) Downey (Jackson, TN) and Kathryn Downey (Indianapolis, IN). She was loved very much and also survived by her siblings Phyllis, Marilyn, Linda, Jim and Chuck, their spouses and many, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Martha Myers. Per Pat’s request, there will be no services at this time. Memorial donations may be made to the VNA Hospice of Northwest Indiana.
