Richard James (Dick) Moran, age 81, of Westville, Indiana (formerly Chesterton IN) passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, at his home on Thursday, December 9th 2021. Richard was born in Kenosha Wisconsin on February 12th 1940 to Walter and Imogene (Haws) as the second of their three sons. The family later relocated to Northwest Indiana where Richard completed his schooling and working briefly for Buckner Heating/Air and co-owning and operating Moran Construction with his brother Larry. Richard had a long career at Inland Steel working as a Rigger and retired from there at age 72.
Richard was a talented wood craftsman and loved working in his garage after retirement. He created many beautiful pieces over the years that he often gifted to those he loved. He was also an avid gun enthusiast and enjoyed a strong cup of coffee and sometimes a good stiff shot of bourbon. Richard was a kind and loving father, grand-father and great-grand-father. His abundance of knowledge and gentle guidance was deeply appreciated by all who knew and loved this sweet and funny man.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, MaryBeth (Zelencik) Moran, son Michael Todd, parents Walter and Imogene, brothers John and Larry Moran, sister-in-law Brenda (Marlow) Moran, and nephew Jonathan Moran. He is survived by his children Susan Merrick (Thomas Atchley), Lynnette Todd, David (Ginette) Smith, Mark (Adrienne) Smith, Elise Todd (John Vespo), his favored child, friend and caretaker Tiffany Todd and his loyal cat Carl. Grandchildren Danielle Lloyd, Kayla Fleming, Curt (Serena) Jones, Kevin Jones, Emily Merrick, Jacob Smith, Jillian Bohnert, Reece Kolasa, Connor Smith. Great-grand son Stanley J. Jones. He will be dearly missed by his sister-in-law Sue (Clifton) Moran, Nephews Rich Moran, Daniel Moran, James (Angi) Moran and niece Lara (Rick) Tapia.
