John D. MacKenzie, 82 of Valparaiso, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the University of Chicago Hospital. He was born January 19, 1934 in Weirton, West Virginia, the son of Elizabeth (McLaughlin) MacKenzie. John was a tin shear operator at Midwest Steel. On July 2, 1954 he married Norma Polen, who survives in Valparaiso. Also surviving are his 3 sons, James (Kathy) MacKenzie of Chesterton, Bruce (friend Carolyn Jordan) MacKenzie of Hazelhurst, GA and Jeff MacKenzie of Valparaiso, grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Elizabeth, sister and brother-in-law Ruth Ellen and Richard Reinard and brother and sister-in-law Lloyd and Evelyn McLaughlin.
